What Is the AF Marina Ferry?

The AF Marina is a Ro-Ro/Passenger vessel that operates the seasonal sea route between Piraeus (Athens) and Limassol, Cyprus. For the 2026 season, the service runs from 29 May to 1 September, operated by Scandro Holding Ltd under charter. The vessel replaces the AF Marina, which served the route in previous years.

The AF Marina sails under the Italian flag and has a passenger capacity of 394 people. It offers 10 double cabins, 20 single cabins, and 58 quadruple cabins — all with private bathrooms — as well as a café, restaurant, casino, and medical clinic on board. Eight quadruple cabins are designated for passengers travelling with pets.

For passengers and vehicle owners arriving at Limassol Port, P.Panagi & Sons Ltd is the official customs clearing agent for private vehicles on this route. Our team is physically present at the port and handles all customs formalities on your behalf.

2026 Season Schedule

The AF Marina operates 22 round trips during the 2026 season. The journey takes approximately 31 hours in each direction. Departures from Limassol are typically on Tuesdays and Saturdays; departures from Piraeus are typically on Thursdays and Mondays.

The first sailing of the season departed Limassol on 29 May 2026. The final sailing from Piraeus to Limassol is scheduled for 1 September 2026. For the full timetable and to book tickets, contact Orthodoxou Aviation at +357 24841051 or ferry@orthodoxou.com.cy, or visit scandroholding.com.

Vehicle Customs Clearance at Limassol Port

All vehicles arriving at Limassol Port on the AF Marina are subject to customs clearance by the Cyprus Customs & Excise Department. The type of clearance required depends on the vehicle’s country of registration and the purpose of the import — whether temporary or permanent. Cyprus is an EU member state, and all arrivals must comply with Cyprus Customs regulations.

P.Panagi & Sons Ltd handles all customs formalities for vehicle owners on the AF Marina. Our team prepares and submits the required customs declarations, coordinates with Cyprus Customs, and ensures your vehicle is released as efficiently as possible. We will contact you at documentation@ppanagi.com approximately 1–3 weeks before your booking date to request the relevant documents. Please reply specifically on that email correspondence.

Cypriot-Registered Vehicles

Cypriot vehicles returning from Greece require the vehicle registration certificate (logbook) and the owner’s ID or passport. Valid road tax must also be in order. The customs process for returning Cypriot vehicles is straightforward, as no import duties apply.

EU-Registered Vehicles (Non-Cypriot)

Vehicles registered in other EU member states (including Greece) require the registration certificate, the owner’s ID or passport, and proof of valid road tax. A Delivery Order (C104O) may also be required depending on the circumstances. Since both Cyprus and Greece are EU member states, no import duties apply on the vehicle itself, but a formal customs declaration is still required at Limassol Port.

Third-Country Vehicles

Vehicles registered outside the EU require the original registration certificate, the owner’s passport and driver’s licence, a completed Temporary Admission (TEA-1A) form, and valid Cyprus insurance. Import duties and VAT may apply depending on the vehicle’s value and origin. Our team will advise you on the applicable charges before your arrival.

Conditions for Vehicle Boarding

Before your vehicle can board the AF Marina, you must meet the following requirements set by the operator:

  • You must be the registered owner of the vehicle, or hold a notarised authorisation from the owner if another driver is operating it.
  • If you are not personally accompanying the vehicle, authorisation from a first-degree relative or spouse — certified by an authorised official — is required.
  • Only one accompanied vehicle per passenger is permitted.
  • If the vehicle is co-owned with a bank, written consent from the bank is required before the vehicle can travel.
  • Unaccompanied, corporate, and commercial vehicles are strictly prohibited on this passenger route.
  • Vehicles that entered Cyprus through non-recognised ports or airports are not permitted.
  • The final booking deadline for motorised vehicle reservations is 7 days before departure. Vehicle documents must be submitted to the operator at least 4 days before departure.
  • Fully electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles must have a battery charge level that does not exceed 40% of total capacity when boarding.

Passenger Customs Rules

Passengers travelling between Greece and Cyprus on the AF Marina are moving between two EU member states. As a result, personal belongings intended for personal use are generally not subject to customs duties. However, Cyprus Customs officers retain the right to inspect luggage upon arrival at Limassol Port.

Certain categories of goods — including tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, and items of significant commercial value — may be subject to quantity limits or duty payments even when travelling within the EU. Passengers should carry valid identification (passport or EU ID card) at all times.

Non-EU nationals arriving on the AF Marina are subject to standard immigration and customs procedures at Limassol Port. A customs declaration may be required depending on the nature and value of goods carried.

Transfer of Residence (TOR) Relief

Passengers who are permanently relocating to Cyprus from a non-EU country may qualify for Transfer of Residence (TOR) relief. This allows household goods and personal effects to be imported into Cyprus free of customs duties and VAT, provided specific conditions are met. TOR relief does not apply to passengers relocating from within the EU, including from Greece.

If you believe you may qualify for TOR relief, contact our team before your arrival so we can advise you on the eligibility criteria and required documentation. For a full overview, see our guide on importing personal effects under Transfer of Residence.
